While reading the adaption of the famous fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood by Imme Dros, we were inspired by the role of the wolf. This villain got a dramatic line by introducing his opponent the "Water Wolf`. Every time the wolf sees his reflection in the well in the woods, he’s convinced there is another wolf. This helps him to overcome his loneliness.
Meanwhile, Little Red Riding Hood (LRRH) is a young girl growing up. Her mother can’t accept this fact and still treats her as a child. Both children and adults can identify themselves with the girl; the adults remember what it was like to be in a hurry to grow up and the children, of course, are in a hurry.
While working on this new youth opera designer Douwe Hibma and director Joke Hoolboom had the visualization of a theatrical radio Play in mind. Hibma designed a winding staircase leading nowhere, with in the middle a round mirror presenting the well. The stairs creaks terribly when you climb it. A door (standing alone) squeaks frightening as it opens. Everything is done to make the audience open up their ears.
