The Tocuyito Trio combines Venezuelan music with European classical music in a highly successful, fresh and diverse way. Its repertoire consists of original compositions and innovative arrangements of traditional Venezuelan music. Afro-Venezuelan dances, Andean waltzes and fiery joropos intertwine with classical music, resulting in an eclectic and varied program.
It is precisely this authentic and personal sound experience, as well as their interest in staged concert formats and their commitment to playing for audiences of all ages and in a wide variety of concert settings, that has made the Tocuyito Trio a featured ensemble at Jeunesse 23/24. The artists of the Tocuyito Trio are graduates of the Jeunesse-Oorkaan-Academy.
The combination of all these factors resulted in a production supported by Jeunesse and Oorkaan, which celebrated its premiere at Konzerthaus in Vienna and was recorded by ORF, the Austrian television channel for children.
The trio takes us on a colorful journey into the magical and spirited world of Venezuelan sounds and rhythms. Cambur Pin-Tón is a staged concert with explosive moments and exotic soundscapes. It tells of breathtaking sunsets, the friendliness and energy of the people, the best fruits, a diverse nature and the joy that in Venezuela everyone can sing and dance the way they love.
“For us, the main connection is the baroque dance elements, the counterpoint between the different instruments and in the music. In Venezuela, musical forms from the past are very much alive today and that’s why the connection between the two sound worlds was so easy to forge.”
